Deputy Mayor Officially Unveils Safe Routes to School Cycle Route
Thursday 25th September saw the completion of the School Travel Plan, when Deputy Mayor of Bridgend, Councillor Jeff Tildesley, officially opening the new Cycle Route outside our school. The morning began with a special assembly involving items from many classes, which included two poetry readings, an explanation of the ’Kerbkraft’ project, how the new route has affected pupils and parents (pictured below), the journey of the Travel Plan and how the cycling proficiency training has improved Year 6 pupils’ road awareness when cycling. The ribbon on the cycle track itself was then cut, complete with a number of Year 6 cyclists watching on! That wasn’t quite the end to the deputy mayor’s duties though, as the cycle racks situated under the Infant Yard shelter also needed unveiling. The whole ceremony was witnessed by the children in Key Stages 1 and 2. Many of whom are already making use of the brand new track and racks!
